Police Department Investigating Drowning Incident Involving Child
The West Liberty Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident involving the drowning of a child that occurred on August 25, 2025, at approximately 1154am.
At approximately 1154am, officers were dispatched to a residence located in the 500 block of E 1st St following a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, West Liberty Officers and West Liberty Fire/EMS personnel located a one-year-old child who had been found unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool.
The child’s identity is not being released at this time out of respect for the family and to allow for proper notifications. The family is asking for privacy as they grieve this unimaginable loss.
The investigation remains ongoing by the West Liberty Police Department in coordination with the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The West Liberty Police Department and West Liberty Fire/EMS would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family during this devastating time.
