Tree Giveaway Program

Trees are an intrinsic part of the quality of life! Trees can improve a neighborhood’s appearance, provide health benefits for residents, offer shade, and even help reduce energy bills. They also remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, decrease runoff, and provide habitat for birds and other urban wildlife. The City is working to grow and expand our tree canopy coverage and tree diversity through our parks and public spaces, and we want to support our homeowners doing the same! City Council recently voted to allot 25 trees to be distributed to homeowners within city limits.

Program Details:

  • This program is limited to one tree per residential property.
  • Trees obtained through this program must be planted on the homeowner’s private property (not to include the Right of Way) & must be located within city limits.
  • While the tree itself is free, the homeowner is responsible for planting, watering, protection, and other maintenance upon ownership.
  • You must notify the Iowa One Call System at least 48 hours (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays) prior to engaging in any type of digging or excavating.
  • A current Utility bill must be attached to your application to verify your address.
  • The pickup date is set for October 19th from 8am-10am at Wapsi Park – you must have an approved application to receive your tree.
