Junk Appliance Compliance

October 4, 2022

Did You Know…

Garbage and appliances are not automatically picked up by the city. In fact, items left outside can result in a nuisance volition if left unattended.

According to City Code 6-1-12, “It shall be unlawful for any person to place, deposit or throw, or permit or cause to be placed, deposited or thrown, any garbage, brush, loose waste or refuse of any kind on public or private property outside of any house, building, flat or tenement in the City…”

Basically, garbage and loose waste can refer to televisions, beds, dressers, and other large appliances, as well as kitchen items, chairs, and more. If these items are left in your yard, you may end up with a violation as we attempt to keep our city safe, clean, and well kept.

However, there is a solution!

For a fee the city will pick up junk appliances or lend you a dumpster. You just need to fill out the appropriate paperwork available at city hall and online at www.cityofwestlibertyia.org/permits-and-forms.

Lets work together towards a clean city!
