Councilmember Diane Beranek Resignation

June 9, 2022

From the office of the City Clerk of the City of West Liberty, a letter of resignation from Councilmember Diane Beranek:

June 6, 2022
Madam Mayor and Council Members,

After serving on the City Council for a combined total of almost 20 years, plus another 20 years in other volunteer positions to include Girl Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, Heritage Foundation (founding member), citizen volunteer on Parks and Recreation Board, the International Day Board, RAGBRAI twice, and numerous other positions; I find it very difficult to serve on this City Council.

I have given this a great deal of thought.

I am tired of the lies, the stress of the battle, and sitting at the table with people who have no clue how City government works. This is not the University of lowa, the City runs under different regulations, and I am tired of hearing, about how the University does things. Pay attention, open your minds to representing the City as a whole, not just one department. You have been elected by the citizens of the City of West Liberty, not the rural people, to look at all the information and make a sound judgement that is best for all the citizens of the City of West Liberty. The key word is ALL, not just a select few.

This City is lucky to have employees that care about their jobs and the City as a whole and have given many hours trying to keep our City a good place to live for everyone. The City Clerk has given up time while on vacation to answer City issues and attempt to resolve disputes. The City is fortunate to have a great staff of employees that all go the extra mile to maintain our City services.

With that, I tender my resignation, effective immediately. And I wish you good luck with your future decisions.

Regards,
Diane Beranek
