WL Police Dept. make arrest in sexual exploitation investigation

On the evening of Monday, March 7, the West Liberty Police Department arrested Emily Resendiz on several charges, including sexual exploitation and second-degree sex abuse.

On Jan. 24, 2022, the West Liberty Police Department received a report that Resendiz, a counselor at the West Liberty Middle School, was allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

The West Liberty Police Department was assisted by the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office and the JFACT Lab in Johnson County as they served several warrants and collected multiple pieces of evidence.  During the investigation, evidence was discovered that Resendiz allegedly had sexual contact with a student on at least two separate occasions.

Emily Resendiz has been charged with the following:
-Criminal Trespass
-Violation of a no contact order
-Sexual exploitation by a counselor, therapist, or school employee
-Two counts of Second-Degree Sexual Abuse
