The Twenty Fourth Annual West Liberty Children’s Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown West Liberty on Third St, with a schedule chock full of performances, crafts, and activities!

The day will include five puppet shows, all by excellent regional puppet troupes, as well as a street teeming with activities and one-on-one performances by visiting puppeteers, balloon twisters, face painters, and musicians. Ride a Tiny Train, paint a picture, make a puppet, eat delicious food, and MORE! Visit one of 15 bubble stations to blow magnificent bubbles!

This year the Festival is part of a full weekend of fun, with Friday afternoon workshops and a Friday evening Puppet Slam for teens and adults.

Due to the rise of Covid-19, masks will be the fashion statement at this year’s festival!

Kids are encouraged to decorate their own washable, reusable masks, then have the rest of their faces painted to match. They will be expected to wear their whimsical masks while watching shows in Ron-de-Voo Park for a fun and safe day!

Thanks to one individual, we are about to enjoy our Twelfth (12th) Fiesta Latina. Our community is fortunate that we may only have 3,800 people living here, but we are blessed with a diversity of almost 52 percent Latino.

Francisco Martinez joined the West Liberty community in 1996 so he and his family could be close to health care opportunities in Iowa City for his disabled son.    Francisco first came to the United States in the mid 1980s working in the agriculture fields of Texas and Florida before moving to Illinois and ultimately to West Liberty, Iowa. Francisco is a proud Mexican-American and since living in West Liberty became a United States Citizen.

Francisco enjoys being a part of the West Liberty community and is celebrating 25 years at West Liberty Foods, LLC. But just living here has not been enough for him, he works every year to bring a fun, festive and entertaining experience to the community, not just the Latino community but to and for the whole West Liberty community. Francisco takes great pride in bringing quality entertainment to West Liberty at NO CHARGE for all residents.
